Marangu, meaning “Land of Water” in the local Chagga language, is perennially lush and cool, with mornings shrouded in mist and doused with overnight rainfalls. Marangu Waterfalls Park consists of a small Chagga culture museum, a restaurant with plenty of garden seating and a long set of staircases shaded by dense vine awnings, which lead down to the base of the falls. The outdoors museum is made up of old stone statues, informational plaques and a small cave that you may enter.
It is worth noting that accommodation options are conveniently located within the Marangu village. Marangu village is more quaint and picturesque than Moshi. It is the ideal base for those who wish to explore the foothills and forests of Mount Kilimanjaro and for those who prefer a more rural atmosphere. If you wish to avoid park fees, there are also a number of walks to waterfalls that fall outside the park, which can be reached on foot in Marangu village.
